What is microneedling and what does it for your skin?

Microneedling is the act of inserting and removing a number of tiny needles at different depths into the skin of the face, body or scalp.

Microneedling can be used to rejuvenate and tighten the skin, improve pores, treat acne and surgery scars, strengthen hair, brighten and lighten the skin. The effect of microneedling is mostly due to the destruction of the previous collagen in the skin and the stimulation of the productive cells to make new collagen.

Microneedling is also used as a method to get some drugs under the skin. For example, skin lightening substances, anti-inflammatory substances, skin boosters, hair growth enhancers, and PRP can be applied to the skin after microneedling to be absorbed. In fact, this method is a type of mesotherapy.

After microneedling, the facial skin will usually be red for three to four days and then healed by scaling. It is best to avoid the sun for a week after microneedling to prevent the blotch. Usually, if PRP is done with microneedling, it works better and the redness will improve sooner.

Because the blotch possibility after microneedling is much less than peeling or invasive lasers such as CO2 laser, microneedling is a better choice for people with olive skin than other methods.

The interval between two microneedling sessions is at least two weeks, but it can be repeated at desired intervals (for example, once or every two months). Personally, I recommend microneedling and PRP to rejuvenate the skin, once every two to four weeks, up to three times, and then every three to four months as maintenance treatment.
